The coastal region of Catalonia has been, and still is, a very popular destination attracting visitors from all over Europe, not surprisingly, as it offers over 400kms of beautiful coastline and ‘guaranteed’ sunshine. The Costa Brava stretches from the French border at Cerbere to the fishing town of Blanes, and includes the well-known destinations such as Lloret de Mar. Lloret de Mar boasts the most exuberant atmosphere to be found on the Costa Brava. There are two long sandy beaches, a vast selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and a traditional Catalan weekly market. When the sun goes down Lloret really comes to life with a fabulous assortment of after-dark entertainment. Our carefully selected hotel is the 3* The Aquarium Hotel which is situated about 1km from the centre of Lloret de Mar, 300 metres from the beach and close to shops, bars and restaurants. There are 240 bedrooms served by two lifts and equipped with private facilities, air conditioning, satellite television, safe, telephone and balcony. Extensive facilities include a dining room, bar, television lounge, sauna, fitness room, sunbathing terrace (with free loungers), swimming pool and regular evening entertainment.

Itinerary

Sat Departing in the early hours of Saturday morning, we travel to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais, then onwards through France to our overnight hotel at Dijon for dinner, bed and breakfast.

Sun We continue our journey through France and over the border into Spain. Travelling South along the coastal road to the resort of Lloret de Mar, which is situated, on the Costa Brava for seven nights Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.

Mon Our first day in the resort at leisure, a chance to familiarise yourself with the many hotel facilities and a chance to explore the immediate surroundings.

Tue Morning excursion to “Tossa De Mar”. Surrounded by medieval walls and seven machicolated towers is The Villa Vella (old quarter) which includes the remains of 14th century gothic church and the Governor’s Palace. Villa Nova (modern town) stretches along the seafront. Further along the coast are tourist resorts such as the coves of Salionc, Giverola, Pola and Llevador, and Llorell and Cala Morisca beaches. The Shrine of Sant Grau, perched among the hills further inland is a splendid lookout point over the coast.

Wed A day of leisure, perhaps a lazy day on the beach or by the pool.

Thu Today we take a refreshing break from the beach and travel to Gerona. Wander around the cool, narrow streets which boast a well preserved Jewish quarter and a medieval cathedral as well as a selection of lively bars, restaurants and shopping areas.

Fri A day of leisure giving time to explore and a chance to do some last minute souvenir shopping.

Sat A full day to the beautiful resort of Roses. Located just 30 miles south of the French border, it is considered to be the tourist capital of the Northern Costa Brava. The origins of this quaint fishing town are still alive today in the form of an authentic fish auction in the harbour every weekday. Before returning to our hotel we make a visit to a supermarket.

Sun Today we have to leave ‘Lloret de Mar’ to travel back through France, making our way to our overnight hotel in Reims for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.

Mon Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we will then make our way to Calais for our return ferry crossing to Dover. We will then proceed with our journey back to Cornwall, arriving home late evening.

Renowned for its warm welcome to visitors an experience not to be missed. Discover its appeal with a leisurely tour of some of Europe’s most exquisite countryside.

Itinerary

Sun We make an early start from Cornwall to catch the Irish Ferry from Pembroke to Rosslare in the afternoon. We complete the journey to our overnight hotel the 3 star Dooleys Hotel, Waterford.

Mon After breakfast we make our way to Midleton, home of the Jameson Heritage Centre, part of the vast Irish Distillers group famous for Jameson, Bushmills, Tullamore Dew and the local Brew “Paddys”. We continue our journey to Blarney to visit the castle and take part in the long standing tradition of kissing the Blarney Stone to receive “the gift of eloquence”. We continue our journey to Bantry, to the Westlodge Hotel, our base for the next 5 nights.

Tue A full day excursion along the Beara Peninsula, perhaps the most remote, is dotted with small fishing villages with stunning backdrops. We travel over the Caha Mountains and through Turner’s Rock Tunnels to Kenmare. Pass along the western shore of the Cloonee lakes through Lauragh, Adrgroom and Eyeries to Castletwonbere, once a haven for smugglers. We travel along the shores of Bantry Bay, through Adrigole to Glengarriff. Take a trip with the Harbour Queen Ferries to Garnish Island (Iinacullen), an Italianate garden that flourishes in this temperate climate, and perhaps glimpse the seals at play (Harbour Queen Ferry Included).

Wed Today is at leisure giving you time to explore the pretty bay of Bantry. Visit Bantry House, home of the White Family also housing the French Armada Centre, enjoy a self guided tour of the beautiful gardens. You may wish to enjoy some relaxing time by the Bay taking in the wonderful views or stroll into the town to explore the traditional shops and restaurants.

Thu Full day excursion to Killarney travelling over the Caha Mountains, through the Sheen Valley to Kenmare. We continue through Molls Gap to Ladies View with fabulous views of the Killarney Lakes. Once in Killarney you will have ample time to experience a jaunting car ride travelling through the National Park, or maybe join the Lily of Killarney for a cruise on the lake. St Marys Cathedral is also worth a visit. Our return journey will take us along the Cork Road to Glenflesk and south through the Loo Valley to Kenmare and our return to Bantry.

Fri Today we travel to Mizen Head, Ireland’s most southerly point. We continue south via Durrus and Golleen enjoying fabulous views across to Clear Island and Fastnet Rock before climbing the sandstone cliff overlooking Barleycove. Visitiors to Mizen Vision may also walk down to the signal station, not for the faint hearted as to reach the island you must cross an arched bridge that spans the vast gulf over the sea below. Our return journey to Bantry takes us via Schull and Ballydehob.

Sat We depart Bantry and travel via Bandon to Cork which, like Venice, has grown from a series of islands in a medieval marsh into a cosmopolitan city. We will have free time for a light lunch and some shopping before visiting the world famous Waterford Crystal Factory. We then continue the short journey to Rosslare and our overnight hotel the 3 star Crosbie Cedars.

Sun Following an early breakfast we travel to the ferry port of Rosslare for the morning crossing to Pembroke and our return journey to Cornwall arriving home mid evening.
