Summer 2019

The Marie Curie Nursing Service in Cornwall is celebrating the provision of 70 years of care and support for terminally ill people and their families.

Marie Curie helps everyone affected by a terminal illness get the information and support they need. There are currently 22 Marie Curie nurses within Cornwall working night and day in people’s homes.

Each hour of a Marie Curie Nurse’s time is an hour of skilled and dedicated care for a person living with a terminal illness. We care for people with any terminal illnesses including cancer, motor neurone disease, Parkinson’s disease, dementia, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other illnesses.

Being with family in the comfort of your own home is the reason many people prefer to spend their final days at home. Over the last 70 years we have helped millions of people get the chance to spend this precious time with their families in the ways that they enjoy, like settling down in front of the TV to watch one of their favourite films.

The charity also provides a wealth of information for someone who is ill as well as family members and friends. A Support Line staffed by trained advisers provides emotional support and give trusted information on everything from day-to-day care to financial information and legal issues.

What’s more, Marie Curie is the leader in research into better ways of caring for people with terminal illnesses and has 9 hospices which offer specialist round-the-clock care.

Active Cornwall

As a company we receive many requests from smaller charities throughout the county that are volunteer based and offer wonderful opportunities to a wide cross section of our communities.

From kids football sessions to memory cafes that offer outgoings and walks to dementia clients, it is vital to all of our well-being that we stay active in both body and mind.

This has prompted us to open the door for smaller charities to benefit from a share in our long running Coach Seats for Causes campaign.

If you are part of or have benefited from a great local charity that keeps our community active then please contact us and nominate them for a donation.
