The Austrian lakes are found close to Salzburg in the famous “Sound of Music Country”. The area offering lush pastures, sparkling lakes with the most dramatic scenery is one of Austria’s most beautiful regions. Our traditional style St Hubertushof Hotel is situated only 200m from Lake Zell and 4km from Zell Am Zee. This superb hotel offers a spacious Tyrolean style restaurant with wooden features, all rooms ensuite with satalite TV, the hotel has a lift.
Itinerary
Sun We make an early start and travel to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais, then onwards through France to our overnight hotel in Metz for dinner bed and breakfast.
Mon After breakfast we continue our journey through Germany into Austria arriving at our hotel in ample time for evening dinner.
Tue A leisurely day when your hosts will take you on a guided walk of this beautiful village after which the coach will take you the short distance to Zell-Am-Zee. Zell-Am-Zee is a beautiful resort with a lake on one side and an impressive mountain on the other. Your time here will be at leisure to enjoy a boat trip on the lake, a cable car ride up the mountain or just enjoy browsing the many shops.
Wed A full day excursion to the “Sound of Music” city of Salzburg the birthplace of Wolfgang Amedaeus Mozart, one of Austria’s greatest Composers, stroll along the great shopping street of the old town or visit the birthplace of Mozart. Alternatively take a funicular railway ride up to the Hohesalzburg Fortress which affords magnificent views of the surrounding area that are so evocative of some of the scenes from the film “The Sound of Music”.
Thu Today we travel to Bad Ischl to explore the Emperors Palace before continuing to the stunning Lake Hallstatt where the village and church cling to the hillside above the lake. You will have time to enjoy a boat cruise on the lake or maybe enjoy a cable car ride to the spectacular Dachstein Ice Caves.
Fri A half day excursion to the spectacular Krimml Waterfalls. The falls lie at the foot of the mighty Gerlos Pass and are among the most spectacular in Europe. The later part of your afternoon will be at leisure at your resort.
Sat Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to our hosts and start our journey back through Germany, making our way to our overnight hotel, Novotel in Metz for Dinner, Bed & Breakfast.
Sun Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we make our way to Calais for our return ferry crossing to Dover. We will then proceed on our journey back to Cornwall, arriving home late evening.
