Itinerary

Sat     Departing from Cornwall early morning with pick-ups en-route, we travel to Lymington for the ferry crossing to Yarmouth and on to our hotel in ample time to settle before evening dinner.

Sun     A full day excursion “Round the Island” taking in the dramatic variations of the Islands’ geology, with time to admire the unique coloured sands of Alum Bay. Many of the Islands hidden secrets are discovered on this beautiful journey.

Mon     After breakfast we enjoy a day out in Ryde. With fine Georgian and Victorian buildings, grand esplanade and sea-front. It boasts the second longest railway pier and the only Hovercraft service in the country, With the chance to visit the ‘mainland’ in only 10 minutes.

Tue      Today we spend a full day in the Islands capital. Situated at the base of the river Medina, Newport has a bustling shopping centre and local market. On the quay, the Bus Museum and Vintage Boat Museum can be found. In the afternoon a chance to visit the imposing castle at Carisbrooke, where King Charles 1 was imprisoned.

Wed     A day at leisure to explore our more immediate surroundings. The old village area of Shanklin is well worth a visit. There are also very pleasant cliff top walks. A cliff lift provides easy access to the beach below.

Thu      An insight into Victorian history with an interesting visit to Osborne House and Whippingham Church. Both designed by Prince Albert, so sadly missed by the Queen, who afterward hardly left Osborne until she died there in 1901. We return via Arreton Craft Village and Maritime Museum, with time for afternoon tea.

Fri       Our final excursion takes us to the Isle of Wight Steam Railway with beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages. This Steam ride passes through five and a half miles of unspoilt Island countryside. The afternoon will be at leisure in Shanklin with time to buy those last minute souvenirs.

Sat     After a good breakfast we depart our hotel for the short drive to Yarmouth where we board the ferry to Lymington and return journey to Cornwall arriving home mid evening.
