For this beautiful tour to the Highlands of Scotland we have arranged overnight accommodation at the Shap Wells Hotel in Cumbria and the Legacy Preston Hotel on a dinner, bed and breakfast basis. For our 4 nights in the Highlands we will be staying in the fine country town of Granton-on-Spey, not far from the famous Spey River. We will stay at the Grant Arms Hotel offering modern comforts whilst retaining its traditional character. All rooms are en-suite with colour TV and tea/coffee making facilities.
Itinerary
Sat Departing Cornwall early in the morning we travel via Exeter and the motorways to Cumbria and the Shap Wells Hotel for our overnight accommodation.
Sun After a good breakfast we continue our journey North via Glasgow and Stirling into the beautiful Scottish Highlands to Granton-on-Spey our base for the next 4 nights.
Mon After breakfast we make our way to Rothes to visit the Glen Grant Distillery for a wee dram or coffee. The distillery also has a lovely woodland garden. Our next stop will be fochaber, Baxters Visitors Centre, famous for its soups. After lunch we begin the return journey to our hotel via Forres to Brodie Country Fare for some retail therapy.
Tue Today we visit the resort of Aviemore in the shadow of the mighty Cairngorm Mountain. During the afternoon we take a scenic journey on the Strathspey Steam Railway from Aviemore to boat of Garten with time at leisure before returning to Granton-on-Spey for the later part of the afternoon.
Wed Today we travel north into the highland capital, Inverness to join the Scotrail train for one of the Great Railway Journeys of the world – the line to Kyle of Lochalsh. The route takes us through some of the best scenery in the country and after a break in the west coast port, we travel back by coach on an equally attractive route.
Thu After a good breakfast we depart our hotel and head south via Stirling and Glasgow to Preston and our overnight hotel, the Hotel Legacy in ample time for evening dinner.
Fri Departing the Hotel Legacy we continue our journey to Cornwall arriving home early evening.
