Itinerary

Sunday We travel from Cornwall to Durham where we will arrive at our hotel to be welcomed by a hot drink. We will have time to settle in before dinner.

Monday After a leisurely breakfast we will travel the short distance to the ancient City of Durham dominated by the magnificent Norman Cathedral and Castle, high above the River Wear. Later in the day we visit nearby Crook Hall and Gardens where we will enjoy a guided tour followed by a cream tea.

Tuesday Today we have a scenic tour including visits to Middleton-in-Teesdale, with its little shops and tea rooms and the market town of Barnard Castle. The latter is a town with a notable history that includes Charles Dickens and Oliver Cromwell. You will have time to browse round the antique shops or visit the castle sitting high above the Tees.

Wednesday Following breakfast we make a visit to the famous Beamish North of England Open Air Museum. The buildings, objects and costumed staff capture the spirit of the North East in the 1800’s and 1900’s. The amazing range of attractions includes a restored tram, replica bus rides, authentic town street, colliery village, visit down the mine, old fashioned sweet shop, working farm, steam locomotives and much more.

Thursday Our journey today will take us into Northumbria and to the county town of Morpeth. With its unique combination of history and beauty the town has a number of quaint features for you to explore. Later in the day we visit Woodhorn Museum, Archives and Country Park. For more than 80 years Woodhorn was a coal mine employing 2000 men. Here you can explore the original colliery buildings as they tell the story of Northumberland.
Friday We bid farewell to Durham and travel south towards home. We will arrive back to Cornwall during the evening.
