Lake Garda is the largest lake in Italy and one of the most popular visitor areas in northern Italy. It has a rich history which mingles successfully with the more cosmopolitan areas. We will explore the delightfully Italian towns and resorts surrounding the clear sparkling lake whilst based in the town of Torbole which has a picturesque harbour and an enviable lakeside position.
The four star Club Hotel La Vela is situated just a stone’s throw from both the centre of Torbole and the tranquil lakeside. The hotel comprises of three buildings surrounding an attractive outdoor pool. All rooms have good facilities and most can be accessed by lift.
Itinerary
Friday Departing Cornwall early morning we travel to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais and then onwards to our overnight hotel The Altia, Lille.
Saturday After breakfast we continue our journey through Belgium and into Germany to The Mercure Hotel Stuttgart for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Sunday Our journey today takes us through Austria, over the Brenner Pass and into Italy where we will arrive at our hotel in Torbole with time to settle in before dinner.
Monday Your morning will be at leisure in Torbole. In the afternoon we will take a short trip to Riva del Garda, a splendid location situated on the northern tip of Lake Garda. The town has a pretty, historic centre along with some great shops and lakeside walks. You will have the opportunity for an optional boat trip to Limone, another beautiful Lakeside Town.
Tuesday A full day excursion to Venice, we shall travel by train from Peschiera del Garda station to Venice. We will arrive at Santa Lucia Station which is right on the Grand Canal. From here you can walk to St Mark’s Square via the Rialto Bridge or you can take advantage of the extensive network of water buses.
Wednesday Today we visit Verona, one of Italy’s oldest cities and an important Roman town, world famous for its opera festival performed at the beautiful Roman Amphitheatre. The streets are lines with palazzi, churches and museums housing fine works of art and displaying breathtaking architecture.
Thursday A full day tour to Sirmione one of the oldest towns on the lake, famous for its medieval centre. The moated castle has lovely piazzas with plenty of cafes to relax and enjoy a cappuccino or ice cream. Boat trips around the ramparts and grottoes are particularly enjoyable.
Friday Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to our hosts and start our journey back to Germany, making our way back to The Mercure Hotel Stuttgart.
Saturday We leave Germany and travel back into France to Lille for dinner, bed & breakfast.
Sunday We depart Lille and travel to Calais for our ferry back to Dover. We then make our way back to Cornwall arriving home in the evening.
