
Lake Orta lies nestled within the mountains above Lake Maggiore. This unspoilt gem comes complete with towering peaks, lush forests, sparkling waters and views across the water to the Magical San Giulio Island. The laid back easy charm of Pettenasco is always appealing to its visitors.
We will stay at the three star family run Hotel Giardinetto which lies on the shores of Lake Orta in an oasis of tranquillity and is considered to be a landmark of hospitality. All rooms have air conditioning, hairdryer, telephone and television. The hotel has a lift.
Itinerary
Saturday Departing early in the morning we travel to Dover for the channel crossing to Calais. Once in France we have an overnight stop at The Altia Hotel, Lille.
Sunday Today we continue our journey through France to Dijon and the Novotel where we will arrive in time for dinner.
Monday We leave Dijon and make our way to Italy arriving at the Hotel Giardinetto later in the day.
Tuesday Today is at leisure and you can take the public ferry from right outside of the hotel to beautiful town of Orta San Giulio. With its narrow cobbled streets, medieval centre and small harbour there is plenty to see. You may choose to take a boat trip over to the monastery on San Giulio Island.
Wednesday We take a lake tour today to enjoy the beautiful Lake Maggoire, We will spend time in the Swiss town of Locarno at the northern tip of the lake. This beautiful resort has a long history and a mild climate that encourages the wealth of Mediterranean plants in the location.
Thursday A full day scenic excursion travelling along the Anzasca Valley once famous for its gold mines to Macugnaga overlooked by the mighty Monte Rosa a favourite ski resort in the winter. You will have time at leisure to enjoy the fabulous views before returning to Orta in time for our evening dinner.
Friday A relaxing day to Stresa, Maggiore’s most stylish town. You can follow the town trail and learn about the history of Stresa, enjoy the views of their long promenade along the lakeside or perhaps you will choose to take the short but scenic boat trip to the nearby Borromean Island.
Saturday We leave Lake Orta and make our way back to the Mercure Hotel at Saarbrucken for our overnight stop.
Sunday After an early breakfast we continue our journey to Calais for the ferry crossing to Dover and return to Cornwall arriving late in the evening.
