COSTA BRAVA – HALF TERM

The Costa Brava coast is famous for its enticing villages and towns, pretty coastline and ‘guaranteed’ sunshine. We base this tour in the Coastal town of Lloret de Mar which makes an ideal base to explore the Costa Brava. There are two long sandy beaches, a vast selection of shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and a traditional Catalan weekly market. As this tour is in half term the resort and hotel will be bustling with a traditional, family holiday atmosphere.

The four star Aquarium Hotel is situated just 1km from the centre of Lloret de Mar and only 300 metres from the beach. All rooms have air conditioning, satellite television, safe, telephone and balcony. The hotel has extensive facilities including a bar, television lounge, sauna, fitness room, sunbathing terrace, swimming pool, lift and regular evening entertainment.

Itinerary

Saturday Departing in the early hours of Saturday morning, we travel to Dover for the ferry crossing to Calais, then onwards through France to our overnight hotel at Dijon for dinner, bed and breakfast.

Sunday We continue our journey through France and over the border. Once in Spain we travel south along the coastal road to the resort of Lloret de Mar, on the Costa Brava. This beachside town will be our base for the next seven nights.

Monday Our first day in the resort is at leisure, a chance to familiarise yourself with the many hotel facilities to explore your immediate surroundings.

Tuesday Morning excursion to “Tossa De Mar”. Surrounded by medieval walls and seven machicolated towers is The Villa Vella (old quarter) which includes the remains of 14th century gothic church and the Governor’s Palace. Villa Nova (modern town) stretches along the seafront. The Shrine of Sant Grau, perched among the hills further inland is a splendid lookout point over the coast.

Wednesday A day of leisure, perhaps a lazy day on the beach or by the pool.

Thursday Today we take a refreshing break from the beach and travel to Gerona. Wander around the cool, narrow streets which boast a well preserved Jewish quarter and a medieval cathedral as well as a selection of lively, restaurants and shopping areas.

Friday A day of leisure giving time to explore and a chance to do some last minute souvenir shopping.

Saturday A full day excursion to the beautiful resort of Roses. Located just 30 miles south of the French border, it is considered to be the tourist capital of the Northern Costa Brava. The origins of this quaint fishing town are still alive today in the form of an authentic fish auction in the harbour every weekday.

Sunday Today we have to leave Lloret de Mar to travel back through France, making our way to our overnight hotel in Reims for dinner, bed & breakfast.

Monday Leaving our hotel after breakfast, we will then make our way to Calais for our return ferry crossing to Dover. We will then proceed with our journey back to Cornwall, arriving home late evening.
