This tour explores the beautiful scenery that lies between the River Severn and the welsh border, an enchanting area dominated by the Forest of Dean and the Wye Valley. It plays host to one of the country’s most scenic river landscapes.
We will once again be staying at the three star Bells Hotel which is surrounded by its own golf course and located close to the centre of Coleford. Many rooms are on the ground floor and all offer tea/coffee making facilities, televisions & telephone.
Itinerary
Sunday Departing Cornwall in the morning we travel across the Severn into Chepstow and The Forest of Dean. We arrive at our hotel to a welcome drink before dinner.
Monday A full day excursion to the beautiful city of Gloucester with time at leisure in the historic waterfront city to visit Gloucester Quays, the city museum and art gallery or the 900 year old cathedral.
Tuesday Today we visit the traditional county town of Monmouth before travelling on to Symonds Yat where we include a 40 minute cruise on the River Wye. During the afternoon we visit the ancient town of Ross on Wye with views overlooking the river, peaceful gardens and an abundance of lovely old fashioned book shops.
Wednesday Today we have two inclusions. We will make a visit to the Forest of Dean heritage centre comprising five galleries which explore the history of the forest from the ice age to the present time as well as enjoying a train ride into the very heart of the Forest of Dean.
Thursday After a good breakfast we travel through the Wye Valley to Caldicot for an included visit to Caldicot Castle and Gardens set in 55 acres of beautiful country park. We continue across the River Severn for the return journey to Cornwall arriving home early evening.
