The unmissable Floriade Horticultural Expo only happens once every ten years and will be one of the most impressive cultural experiences of the decade. With five themed zones, 7000 square metres of flower and plant shows, music, dance and theatre this will be a truly memorable event. We will also enjoy a guided three nations day.
The three star Best Western Hotel at Walram is located just a two minute walk from the centre of the Dutch town of Valkenburg. The hotel has an indoor pool, spa and lift facilities. There will be one night of live entertainment during our stay.
Itinerary
Sunday We have an early start from Cornwall and travel to Dover for an afternoon ferry to Calais. We have an overnight stop at The Altia Hotel, Lille.
Monday Today we travel from Lille to Valkenburg. We will break our journey and enjoy a visit to the typically flemish city of Mechelen. Once the capital of the lowlands, Mechelen has a number of impressive buildings including several beautiful churches. Later in the day we will travel on to our hotel and settle in.
Tuesday Venlo plays host to the Floriade and it is here that we will enjoy a whole day to enjoy as much as we can of this remarkable event that is so much more than just a flower show.
Wednesday After breakfast we will visit the Mondo Verde Gardens where you will see a huge variety of flora and fauna from all over the world. We include morning coffee and a slice if ‘limburgse vlaai’. Your afternoon will be free to enjoy the relaxed pace of Valkenburg. Its heated pavement cafes, numerous boutiques and interesting historical buildings all combine to make it a unique place of interest.
Thursday Visit three countries in one day. Our local guide will join us for a five hour guided tour to include the villages of South Limburg, the ‘3 country point’ where you will be afforded views of German, the Netherlands & Belgium. We also have a visit to Aachen. In the evening we will enjoy a Three Nations themed dinner.
Friday Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to Valkenburg and after an early breakfast we make our way back to Calais and board our ferry for Dover. We will arrive back to Cornwall later in the evening.
