This two centered tour offers the opportunity to see much of the vast remoteness of this country as well as experiencing some striking architecture along with rich and inspiring history. The four star Copthorne Hotel in Aberdeen is situated in the quiet west end of the city within easy walking distance of the sights. Behind the granite facade of this historic building you will find traditional charm combined with modern amenities.
The three star Columba Hotel is positioned in the heart of Inverness with enviable views over the River Ness and up to Inverness Castle. Rooms are recently refurbished to a high standard.
Both hotels have lifts.

Itinerary

Thursday We travel from Cornwall to Preston where we have an overnight stop at The Legacy Preston International.

Friday After breakfast we continue our journey north, into Scotland and on to Aberdeen where we will settle into our hotel.

Saturday Aberdeen has a long sea faring history. We will have a morning visit to the Maritime Museum which tells the story of the city’s long relationship with the North Sea. After lunch we will travel along the coast to the pretty county town of Stonehaven.

Sunday Your day will be free to enjoy Aberdeen. This small city has developed around the harbour and you can explore the fishing area, have lunch in Duthie Park or stroll around Old Aberdeen which includes St Machar’s Cathedral and King’s College Chapel.

Monday Today we leave Aberdeen and travel to The Glenfiddich Distillery. The visit includes a film about the history of the Distillery, a visit to the very heart of the operation and a tasting of the final product. In the afternoon we visit Tomintoul which is the highest village in the Highlands and Aviemore, a popular town sitting in the shadows of the mighty Cairngorm Mountains. Later in the afternoon we will arrive at the Columba Hotel and settle in before dinner.

Tuesday We will enjoy a guided tour of the stunning fairytale Cawdor Castle, famous for its links to Shakespeare’s Macbeth. Following this we will have a self guided tour of the gardens and morning coffee with home-made bake. Your afternoon will be at leisure in Inverness. Granted Royal Charter in the 12th century and recently granted city status Inverness is renowned for its hospitality.

Wednesday Loch Ness will be our first port of call today. We will enjoy a one hour boat cruise through the deepest part of Loch Ness and past the superb ruins of Urquhart Castle. Morning coffee & shortbread will be served on board. In the afternoon we visit the highland town of Dingwall, birthplace of Macbeth.

Thursday We leave Inverness and travel to Preston for our overnight stop.

Friday Our final leg of the return journey home will be made today. We will arrive in Cornwall during the evening.
