This lovely Donegal explorer takes us to the top of Ireland where the countryside is beautifully rugged and is framed by spectacular coastline and mountains. We enjoy the coastal rail journey made by Michael Palin to the awe inspiring Giants Causeway and a guided tour of the walled city of Derry.

The three star Kee’s Hotel is nestled in a handy town location in twin towns of Stranorlar and Ballybofey. Rooms are furnished in keeping with the character of this lovely traditional Irish hostelry and the recommended restaurant serves local seasonal dishes. The leisure club has indoor pool and Jacuzzi. The hotel has a lift.

Thursday We make an early start and travel to Pembroke for our afternoon ferry to Rosslare. Once on Irish turf we make our way to the Seven Oaks Hotel, Carlow where we will enjoy an overnight stop.

Friday Our journey north takes us through some of the oldest inhabited lands in Ireland which are steeped in history. We enjoy a break for lunch on the way to the Kee’s Hotel where a warm welcome awaits us.

Saturday Today we discover Donegals scenic Glenveagh National Park which encompasses 16,000 acres in the heart of the Derryveagh Mountains. We include admission to the informative visitor centre as well as Glenveagh Castle, a 19th century castellated mansion with beautiful gardens.

Sunday A guide will join us today for a tour of the Inishowen Peninsula taking in the panoramic views and ancient monuments capped by Mailin Head, Irelands northernmost point. In the afternoon our guide will take us on a walking tour of Derry whilst revealing its colourful history.

Monday After a relaxed start to our day we visit the historic town of Donegal. You may like to visit the Jacobean castle or take a boat trip around Donegal Bay. We return to our hotel in the afternoon for time to enjoy our surroundings.

Tuesday We take to the rails as we make the famous coastal railway journey from Derry to Coleraine. It was described by Michael Palin as ‘one of the most beautiful railway journeys in the world’. On arrival we travel a short distance to the iconic Giants Causeway.

Wednesday Bidding farewell to Donegal we travel back through the heart of Ireland to the city of Dublin where there is free time before travelling the short distance to the Talbot Hotel, Stillorgan.

Thursday After an early start we travel the short distance to Rosslare and board the ferry to begin our return journey. Breakfast will be taken on board the ferry this morning. We arrive back in Cornwall later in the evening.
