A tour of Yorkshire that offers a leisurely pace of times gone by as we take in dramatic, romantic landscapes broken by the familiar sound of a steam train making its way through a backdrop of rolling countryside. A tour not to be missed.

Arriving is part of the experience at the three star standard Mercure Bradford Bankfield, an impressive Gothic mansion in private grounds with views over the Aire Valley. Rooms are well appointed and the well manicured gardens are a relaxing haven on balmy summer evenings.

Wednesday We travel to West Yorkshire and arrive at our hotel in time for dinner.

Thursday We head towards Leeds with a visit to the excellent Leeds Industrial Museum located in Armley Mill, the largest working mill in Yorkshire. From the 18th century to the present day the interactive museum tells the history of manufacturing in Leeds. Later we visit the spa town of Harrogate.

Friday This morning begins with the Settle and Carlisle Railway, one of England’s most scenic rail journeys across the famous Ribblehead viaduct and to the highest mainline station in England. Later we join the Wensleydale Railway, an exciting restoration project re-instating a rail link of the past.

Saturday Our day starts at Skipton, ‘Gateway to the Dales’. Here we enjoy a cruise on one of the country’s best known inland waterways before making our way to Haworth, where little has changed since it was home to the Bronte sisters. Later we enjoy a steam train ride on the 1950s Keighley & Worth Valley Railway following the locations used in the film ‘The Railway Children’.

Sunday Today starts with a visit to Bolton Abbey in its tranquil location alongside the River Wharfe. We have time for a stroll through part of the Duke of Devonshire’s estate, before joining The Embsay & Bolton Abbey Steam Railway. Continuing through beautiful Dales we visit the pretty town of Grassington.

Monday After breakfast we see the last of the Yorkshire countryside as we begin our journey home.
