LAKES & CITIES OF ITALY

Based on Lake Como

Wordsworth described Lake Como as a treasure which the earth had kept to itself. It is not simply the natural beauty of the mountain framed waters of Como that is so attractive but also the sophisticated ambience of the towns and villages that hug its shores. Its close proximity to the beautiful Lake Lugano and the wonderful city of Milan makes this a fabulous holiday destination.

The four star Grand Hotel Cadenabbia is one of the finest hotels on the shores of Lake Como. This large historic property has the lovely feel of a bygone era and its highlight is undoubtedly the wonderful rooftop, bar, restaurant and terrace which offer spectacular views. Bedrooms are a good size and elegantly furnished. Facilities include outdoor pool and lift.

Itinerary

Friday We make an early start and travel to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais then travel on to the Altia Hotel, Lille for an overnight stop.

Saturday After breakfast we continue our journey into the Alsace region for an overnight stay at The Mercure Strasbourg Aeroport.

Sunday Today we cross through Switzerland and then on to Italy arriving at the Grand Hotel Cadenabbia late in the afternoon.

Monday Our first day will be at leisure to explore this lovely lakeside hamlet that is incorporated into the larger town of Griante. You may wish to stroll the lakeside locally or hop on a water taxi to visit any part of the lake.

Tuesday Today we cross the border into Switzerland and visit the stylish city of Lugano. Take time to enjoy the grand promenade, chic shops and amazing yachts. Its beautiful main square, Piazza della Riforma, is ringed with pastel-colored, neoclassical palazzi.

Thursday Our coach will take us for a day in the beautiful city of Milan. Known for being the fashion and design capital of Europe, the city also has a rich history of being one of the most glorious of the Italian Comuni during the Middle Ages. It housed one of Italy’s most spectacular courts during the Renaissance.

Friday This morning we have a visit to nearby Villa Carlotta, an ancient home which welcomes visitors with a magnificent botanic garden and art masterpieces in over seventy thousand square metres of gardens and museum. In the afternoon we drive along the lakeside to the city of Como where a visit to the beautiful Cathedral is not to be missed.
