HIGHLIGHTS OF STRATFORD & ALTHORP HOUSE

This historic area is often associated with Shakespeare but has much more to offer in the way of history and beauty. This new tour takes us on a discovery of the picturesque English county and includes a visit to the spectacular Althorp House, home of the Spencer family and resting place of Diana, Princess of Wales.

The four star Mercure Walton Hall is set in sixty five acres of glorious countryside overlooking a lake. All rooms are in the contemporary hotel and Coach House and are modern in design with hairdryer, telephone, TV, hot drink facilities and iron.

Itinerary

Wednesday We travel from Cornwall to Stratford and we will enjoy a break in the regency spa town of Cheltenham on the way.

Thursday Today we begin with a visit to Sulgrave Manor, a superb example of a modest Manor House and Garden of the time of Shakespeare, and once the home of George Washingtons direct ancestors. We have coffee and cake on arrival followed by a tour of the house and gardens. In the afternoon we have time in the historic Cotswolds town of Banbury.

Friday After breakfast we travel to Stratford on Avon, a pretty town with a colourful history and streets lined with wonderful buildings. The River Avon runs through the heart of this historic town and on arrival we take a 45 minute cruise where morning coffee is offered as we are afforded unspoiled views of Stratford. The rest of our day is free to discover the town and its attractions for yourself.

Saturday Althorp will be todays venue, dating back to 1508 the estate has been home to the Spencer family for twenty generations. Since the tragic death of Princess Diana it has been known across the world. We explore the wonderful house and its private collections by guided tour. There will then be time to explore the park, gardens and lake.
