JOURNEYS OF THE THAMES

New Tour

The River Thames is the longest river in England and has undoubtedly made London what it is today. Stretching from the rolling hills of the Cotswolds to the well-known skyscapes of the city, we enjoy many aspects of the famous river and its beautiful banks.

The four star De Vere Beaumont Estate Hotel is set in 40 acres of grounds and parklands on the outskirts of Windsor. Rooms offer a subtle luxury and the décor in the beautiful public rooms is a nod toward the hotels rich history.

Itinerary

Thursday We travel from Cornwall to Royal Berkshire with a leisurely lunch break on the way. We arrive at our hotel later in the afternoon.

Friday Our day begins in Reading where we get our first trip on the famous river as we board our vessel to cruise to Henley. Along the route we pass through several locks, see many notable places and enjoy the lovely banks of the Thames. On arrival in Henley there will be time for lunch before we visit the River and Rowing Museum. This award winning attraction depicts the history of the river, life on it and around it.

Saturday A free morning to explore the royal town of Windsor before we take to the Thames join a two hour French Brothers Cruise and see a different perspective of the famous and impressive local sights.

Sunday The early part of our day will be spent in the Thameside town of Richmond-upon-Thames, probably London’s most attractive borough that has long been a favourite retreat for Royalty and the rich and famous. Later we visit Ham House, a rare and atmospheric 17th century house on the banks of the Thames. We have a guided garden tour and time to enjoy the creation of the tenacious Duchess of Lauderdale and her husband. It is said to be one of the most haunted properties in the country.

Monday After checking out we travel to the Cotswolds where we visit the pretty town of Lechlade on the upper reaches of the Thames. The river here is busting with wildlife and what was a vital link with the city is now mostly a place of leisure. We have time for lunch in the Cotswolds before making the journey home to Cornwall.
