SWISS CHOCOLATE TRAIN

Switzerland is known for its Alpine villages, fresh mountain air and rich delicacies. This tour offers authentic experiences of this welcoming country as well as a scenic feast as we traverse the idyllic mountain scenery. The highlight of the tour will be an indulgent day on the famous Chocolate Train.

The three star Alpine Classic Hotel is a modern hotel with a traditional décor. It sits in the centre of Leysin and the traditional restaurant has a terrace and panoramic views of the Dents du Midi mountain range.

Itinerary

Saturday We leave Cornwall and travel to Dover for our ferry crossing to Calais before continuing on to our overnight hotel, Mercure Reims Parc Des Expositions.

Sunday After breakfast we continue our travels through Europe and cross the border into Switzerland to arrive in the town of Leysin.

Monday We have a day at leisure in Leysin to explore our lovely surroundings. Perhaps relax at the hotel or take a trip on the Berneuse Cable Car to the summit of the mountain for perfect views of Geneva and Mont Blanc on a clear day.

Tuesday This morning we embark on an epic cheese and chocolate journey! Our full day on the magnificent Chocolate Train starts from Montreux for a journey through the scenic countryside to the village of Gruyères and the La Maison du Gruyère cheese dairy. Later we travel to Broc, home of the Cailler-Nestlé chocolate factory to discover the story of chocolate, with tastings of course! We board our train after this for our return journey.

Wednesday This morning we head for Vevey, a pearl of the Swiss Riviera sitting on the banks of Lake Geneva. The town has a number of quirky features and a lovely mediterranean feel market. Enjoy lunch before we make our way to Montreux, the lakeside town made famous by its yearly jazz festival. Stroll along the flower lines promenade or visit the gothic castle.

Thursday Today we head across the border and take the beautiful mountain road to the chic mountain resort of Chamonix. There will be time to wander the lovey town centre and squares and see statues of grandees of Chamonix history. Whilst here we include a ride on the Mer de Glace Railway. This famous little red train is a vintage experience where time stands still. The track climbs the mountainside and enters the realm of the high mountains before reaching its destination at the foot of the famous Mer de Glace glacier. Our ticket includes admission to the museum.

Friday After breakfast it is time to say goodbye to the fresh mountain air of Switzerland and travel to our overnight hotel, Mercure Reims Parc Des Expositions in Reims.

Saturday Today we travel to Calais for our ferry crossing to Dover and then begin our journey home.
