Rural villages and lush green meadows have been richly depicted over the years by a number of famous painters. We follow in their footsteps around the glorious countryside and the peaceful coastline. A visit to unique Lavenham and the excellent Newmarket Heritage Centre completes the tour. Sit back and enjoy a holiday of charm and nostalgia.

The four star Best Western Ipswich Hotel nestles in the quaint village of Copdock just outside of historic Ipswich. The comfortable public space overlooks the pretty walled garden and bedrooms have excellent facilities. This hotel has a lift.

Itinerary

Sunday We travel from Cornwall to East Anglia and arrive at our hotel later in the day.

Monday Today takes us on a tour of the picturesque Sussex towns and villages that have provided artists with rich inspiration. We include visits to time warped Aldeburgh where the composer Benjamin Britten lived and worked, the old fashioned seaside town of Southwold and the thriving old town of Woodbridge.

Tuesday This morning we visit Newmarket and the impressive National Heritage Centre for Horseracing and Sporting Art at Palace House. This gem of royal history has been bought back to life and celebrates the town’s status as an historic home of horseracing. There will be time to explore this attraction and the town of Newmarket which is home to two renowned racecourses attracting more than 350,000 visitors each year.                                               

Wednesday For our final day out we head first for the historic town of Lavenham with pretty coloured houses and unique Guildhall. We have time to explore and enjoy a coffee before we move on to Stowmarket. Here we visit the unique and interesting Museum of East Anglian Life. This is an open air museum set in 80 acres of countryside with over 45000 objects exploring the area’s rural and social history.

Thursday After breakfast we leave Ipswich and make the journey home to Cornwall.
