THREE COUNTIES OF NATIONAL TRUST

New Tour

England plays host to many historic and impressive gardens and houses and the National Trust offer us access to the history, artistry and beauty of many of them. We enjoy visits to three different counties and a range of important houses and gardens that are well preserved and looked after in the care of the National Trust for us all to enjoy.

The four star DoubleTree by Hilton Newbury North Hotel is located in attractive countryside on the outskirts of the town. Fresh and modern guest rooms offer Wifi, TV, USB ports, safe, hot drink facilities and air-con. Ground floor rooms can be requested as there is not a lift.

Itinerary

Friday We travel from Cornwall to Bristol where we enjoy a visit to Dyrham Park where the 17th century baroque mansion is nestled in an ancient deer park at one end of the Cotswold Ridge. There will be time for exploration of the wonderful house and extensive gardens and parklands before we make our way to our hotel.

Saturday Our day begins with a visit to medieval Winchester where we have a ninety minute guided walk to discover the amazing history of one of Hampshire’s gems and how it is linked to historic characters including King Arthur and Jane Austen. In the afternoon we visit West Green House Garden. The ‘Opera Garden’ nestles in a woodland corner of Northern Hampshire and boasts a special and distinctive sense of place created over two decades by Marylyn Abbott a renowned Australian garden designer whose twin passions for English Gardens and International Opera have created a unique environment.

Sunday This morning our day starts at a leisurely pace with a visit to Mompesson House. Stepping back in time to the days of ‘Sense and Sensibility’ we enjoy this Queen Anne house and its National Collection. Later in the afternoon there will be time to see more of Salisbury and possibly visit the cathedral.

Monday After breakfast we check out of our hotel and head to Bath. Here we enjoy a visit to the magnificent Prior Park. The famous garden is set in a sweeping valley where visitors can enjoy magnificent views of Bath. Restoration of the ‘Wilderness’ has reinstated the Serpentine Lake, Cascade and Cabinet. We travel back to Cornwall in the afternoon.
