AUTUMN COLOURS OF SUFFOLK

The rural countryside and rich green hedgerows that have inspired artists for centuries turn to rich reds and golden hues in the autumn. We see the area at a time that some would call its most colourful and enjoy a range of visits to places to discover the real Suffolk.

The four star Best Western Ipswich Hotel nestles in the quaint village of Copdock just outside of historic Ipswich. The comfortable public space overlooks the pretty walled garden and bedrooms have excellent facilities. This hotel has a lift.

Itinerary

Monday We leave in the morning and travel to our hotel with comfort breaks on the way.

Tuesday We begin today with a ride through picturesque villages to timewarped Aldeburgh, home to the composer Benjamin Britten. Moving on we head for Southwold, a charmingly old fashioned seaside town with an atmosphere of years gone by. We also visit the riverside town of Woodbridge. The latter part of our afternoon will allow time to explore Ipswich.

Wednesday Today we visit Marks Hall Gardens and Arboretum where the extensive collection is planted on a geographical theme, with plants from the temperate regions of the world grouped together providing interest and enjoyment throughout the year. Later in the day we have a short visit to the home of Tiptree jam and the Roman city of Colchester.

Thursday We walk in the footsteps of artists today as we take a tour of the pretty Suffolk villages that inspired Gainsborough and Constable. We include a visit to Lavenham where Constable worked and Sudbury where we visit the home of Gainsborough. Here we learn of his life and see his masterpieces.

Friday After breakfast we leave Suffolk and travel home to Cornwall.
