Scotland is a land of impressive mountain wilderness and beautiful glacial glens. This two centred tour begins in Aberdeen where we see the rich tapestry of history of the area worn on its sleeve for all to see. We then move down to the pretty town of Peebles and explore the beautiful Scottish borderlands.

The four star Best Western Plus Samlesbury Hall Hotel is a fresh and contemporary hotel, ideally situated for an overnight break on the outskirts of Preston. Rooms have excellent facilities and the hotel has a lift.

The four star Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel and Spa is a beautiful mansion house set in acres of tranquil countryside. Rooms are traditionally decorated and there are excellent spa facilities including an indoor pool.

The four star Macdonald Cardrona Hotel offers luxurious contemporary accommodation set in timeless natural surroundings. With the hotel’s scenic location on the banks of the River Tweed we discover a relaxing haven. The excellent attention to detail in guest rooms offers the perfect place to unwind. Itinerary

Tuesday We travel from Cornwall to Lancashire where we have an overnight stop at the Best Western Plus Samlesbury Hotel.

Wednesday Our journey today takes us north into Scotland and on to its east coast. Here we are welcomed warmly at the Mercure Aberdeen Ardoe House Hotel.

Thursday Aberdeen is a port city with strong links to a seafaring past and we include a visit to its informative Maritime Museum. This award-winning attraction is located on the historic Shiprow and is home to a unique collection. There will be time for lunch in the ‘Granite City’ of Aberdeen before we make our way to the Royal Deeside Railway. This short heritage line is attractively situated along the pretty river Dee.

Friday This morning we have a visit to Haddo House where we walk in the footsteps of Queen Victoria. A guided tour of the house takes in the period collections and famous decorated ceilings. There will be time to enjoy the terrace garden with lavish beds and borders. In the afternoon we discover one of Britain’s top historic gardens, Pitmedden. This wonderful walled parterre garden has over 30,000 bedding plants in colourful designs and an interesting museum of domestic and agricultural machinery.

Saturday Drum Castle was gifted to the Irvine family by Robert the Bruce and we have an out of hours guided tour to discover this Jacobean Mansions 700 years of history. The castle gardens contain the beautiful Garden of Historic Roses which is divided into quadrants that show how roses have been cultivated from the 17th to the 20th century. There will be time for lunch in the lovely town of Banchory before we have a scenic tour to the town of Ballater sitting on the edge of the magnificent Cairngorms.

Sunday It is time to discover another area of Scotland. We travel south and cross the Firth of Forth and have a break for lunch in the city of Edinburgh. Later in the afternoon we check in to the Macdonald Cardrona Hotel and settle in before dinner.

Monday The beautiful Scottish borders are home to the ancient Bowhill estate. It has a regal seat in the heart of the ancient hunting forest and is blessed with an abundance of beautiful scenery. During our time here we have a two hour guided tour of the house and gardens before an included lunch. We then board our coach for a one hour guided tour before time at leisure.

Tuesday Today we have a morning excursion to the nearby picturesque town of Biggar. This lovely town is seated in the Clyde Valley and the Biggar Trail discovers historic points of interest and important events in the life of the town. Our afternoon will be free to enjoy Peebles or the excellent facilities of our hotel.

Wednesday    We are joined by a local guide today for a full day tour of the historically turbulent Scottish borderlands. Our day will take in the ramparts and bastions of Berwick-upon-Tweed, the pretty town of Kelso and the distinctive Eildon Hills as we reach the beautiful Scottish town of Melrose.

Thursday Leaving Peebles we make the journey back to Cornwall arriving home during the evening.
