Immerse yourself in the fascinating history and culture of the heart of Europe on the Danube to Vienna and Budapest. With time in Vienna, this is a wonderful opportunity to sail the waters immortalised by the composer Strauss in The Blue Danube.

The MS Serenity

This four star ship sails the great waterways of Europe and provides unforgettable memories whilst exuding luxury and style in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. Excellent service and attention to detail is a priority of the captain and crew. Cabins are split over three decks which are all accessible by lift. The spacious and attractive lounge is located on the Panoramic Deck and provides a great place to watch the scenery pass by.

Saturday We travel from Cornwall to Dover and board an afternoon ferry for Calais. We then travel onto The Altia Hotel, Lille for an overnight stay.

Sunday After breakfast we make our way to our second overnight break at The Mercure Hotel at Wurzburg.

Monday Our journey today will take us across Germany to Passau, Lower Bavaria. Later in the afternoon we board The MS Serenity. As we settle in and familiarise ourselves with this beautiful ship we begin our cruise and set sail for Melk.

Tuesday In the morning enjoy the picturesque Austrian town of Melk which is best known for its massive Benedictine Abbey, one of the most famous and splendid monastic houses in Austria. We include a guided tour of Melk Abbey with time to visit the gardens. At lunchtime we sail to Vienna.

Wednesday We have a whole day in Vienna to enjoy this magnificent city including a one hour guided coach tour of the city followed by a one hour walking tour. In the afternoon we visit Schonbrunn Palace, a World Cultural Heritage site and Austria’s most-visited place. The baroque work of art consists of palace and gardens largely in its original condition. In the evening we cruise towards Budapest.

Thursday Today we spend time in one of the worlds most beautiful cities and explore both sides of Hungarys capital – traditional ‘Buda’ and cosmopolitan ‘Pest’. We have a three hour guided tour on a local coach including a visit to The Fishermans Bastion. The present day lookout towers are a decorative fortification of the Fisherman’s Bastion and were built in the 19th century to serve as a lookout tower for the best panoramic views in Budapest. In the evening we have a visit to a folklore show to see traditional gypsy dancing and enjoy goulash soup and wine. On the return to our ship we have a brief guided tour of Budapest by night.

Friday Remaining in Budapest we include a visit to the live Puszta Horse Show including a welcome pogaca and palinka (salt scone and fruit brandy). Later we begin the cruise to Bratislava.

Saturday Arriving in Bratislava, Slovakia in the morning we have a two and a half hour guided walking tour of this beautiful capital. Memorable sights include the magnificent cathedral and the landmark palace. This compact and contrasting city is alive with a mixed history and abandoned remnants of its Socialist past. Later in the day we sail towards Durnstein.

Sunday Durnstein is famous for the ruins of the castle which once imprisoned Richard The Lionheart. There will be time in this unspoilt town to stroll the cobbled streets and discover its history and beauty. We then set sail for Passau and enjoy tonights farewell party.

Monday We say a sad goodbye to our ship and make the journey back to Wurzburg, Germany where we have an overnight break at the Mercure Hotel.

Tuesday After breakfast we continue through Germany and on into France to the Altia Hotel, Lille for our last overnight.

Wednesday Leaving Lille we travel to Calais for a ferry to Dover. We make our way back to Cornwall and arrive home during the evening.
