SCARBOROUGH & MAGICAL MOORLANDS

Scarborough is a much loved holiday destination in an unrivalled position on the Yorkshire coast. Its seaside charm can be soaked up in stark but tantalising contrast to the nearby North Yorkshire National Park. We discover golden beaches, historic houses and heritage railways.

The three star standard Esplanade Hotel enjoys a commanding position on Scarborough’s South Cliff just a short walk from the beach and town centre. All rooms have TV and hot drinks facilities. There is a lift to all floors and entertainment on two evenings.

Itinerary

Sunday We travel north to Yorkshire and arrive at the Esplanade Hotel with time to relax before dinner.

Monday Leaving Scarborough we head south to the genteel resort of Filey for a short stop before a visit to Eden Camp. This original World War II prisoner of war camp is now a museum exhibiting the spirit of wartime Britain. We will see its collection of aeroplanes, historic cars, munitions and wartime memorabilia.

Tuesday Today will be free to see the varied attractions of Scarborough. Enjoy the delightful promenade, attractive Belvedere Gardens or take the Cliff Lift down to the golden beaches of the South Bay and busy harbour.

Wednesday This morning we head north following the coast road to Whitby, the famous fishing port was once the home of Captain James Cook. We have time to wander around the narrow streets and busy harbourside before we join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway service taking us over the scenic North Yorkshire Moors through Grosmont and Goathland to Pickering.

Thursday Our coach will take us to Yorkshires finest historic house and garden, Castle Howard. For over 300 years this palatial stately home has commanded its position over the Howardian Hills and, more recently, was the setting for TV’s acclaimed ‘Brideshead Revisited’.

Friday Regretfully we leave after breakfast and begin our journey home to Cornwall.
