ISLE OF MAN

The Isle of Man is a beautiful island with breathtakingly diverse scenery, unspoilt beaches and a relaxed pace of life. This pint sized island is just 32 miles long and getting around is a delight whether by steam railway, horse drawn tram or the electric railway which gives magnificent coastal views. We base our tour in Douglas, the hub of the island and a delightful town with a sweeping Victorian promenade.

The three star Empress Hotel has a prominent promenade position, just a short walk from the town centre. It is noted for being one of the best hotels on the island.

Itinerary

Wednesday We travel from Cornwall to the Preston area where we have an overnight stop in the Samlesbury Hotel.

Thursday After a leisurely breakfast we have a morning visit to the small historic city of Lancaster. There will be time to follow the heritage trail and have lunch before we travel the short distance to Heysham for the ferry to the Isle of Man.

Friday This morning we join the Isle of Man Steam Railway. Our journey takes us from Douglas to Port Erin taking in the most scenic views of the southern part of this beautiful isle. We also visit the ancient Castletown with its historic castle and attractive cobbled streets.

Saturday Today begins with a visit to the Great Laxey Wheel and mine trail. This feat of Victorian engineering and ingenuity is the largest surviving waterwheel of its kind in the world. Later we visit the ‘Sunset City’ resort of Peel where you’ll be awarded stunning views and a glimpse of the Mountains of Mourne.

Sunday Our last day will be free to relax and enjoy Douglas. The town is the capital of this lovely island and is a unique blend of holiday resort and working harbour. Perhaps use the traditional public transport system to explore independently.

Monday Sadly it’s time to say goodbye to the Empress Hotel and board our ferry for the mainland. We arrive back to Cornwall later in the evening.
