Itinerary

Sunday We leave Cornwall in the morning and travel north to Darlington arriving early in the evening.

Monday Today we start with a drive to the city of Ripon, dominated by its magnificent cathedral and giant obelisk. There will be free time to discover this city steeped in tradition before moving on to Richmond. High above the River Swale the town is home to a castle and a number of notable museums.

Tuesday We begin our day in the market town of Barnard Castle. See where Dickens immortalised ‘Dothboys Hall’, take a look at Cromwell’s refuge or browse round the antique shops. We then visit Bowes Museum, one of County Durham’s biggest surprises housed in a majestic French-style chateau.

Wednesday The famous Beamish – North of England Open Air Museum is our destination today. This awe inspiring attraction captures the spirit of the North East in the 1800’s and 1900’s. Features include a restored tram, authentic town street, colliery village, old fashioned shops, a working farm, steam locomotives and much more.

Thursday This morning we travel to the ancient and historic city of Durham, a World Heritage Site whose magnificent Norman cathedral and castle sit high above the River Wear. We have the day to explore the city with its labyrinth of little streets and alleyways.
