East Anglia is an area that has retained so much of its unspoilt character. The beautiful rural landscapes, architecture and traditions are still very much in evidence and it is easy to see why the famous artist John Constable was so inspired by the area.

The four star Best Western Marks Tey Hotel stands on the outskirts of Colchester and offers an excellent standard of accommodation. Hotel facilities include leisure club with indoor pool.

Thursday We depart Cornwall in the morning and travel to East Anglia. The Marks Tey Hotel will afford us a warm welcome and tea with hot cross bun on arrival.

Friday This morning we discover the idyllic villages and unspoilt beauty on our tour of the Constable Country. We include the birthplace of the famous painter at East Bergholt as well as many landscape favourites such as the church at Dedham and the little hamlet of Flatford. In the afternoon we visit the ‘Essex Sunshine Coast’ with bustling Clacton-on-Sea and more relaxed Walton-on-the-Naze.

Saturday Today we visit Felixstowe an Edwardian resort with a long promenade and seafront gardens. Whilst here we include a visit to Landguard Fort, one of England’s best preserved coastal defences, with a military history spanning almost 450 years. In the afternoon we have time in Ipswich, England’s oldest continuously inhabited town. This lovely waterfront destination is at the cutting-edge of the arts and culture scene.

Sunday Happy Easter. Today we have a leisurely start to the day before visiting Kentwell Hall, Gardens and Rarebreeds Farm. This fine Tudor property has the ambience of a home rather than an attraction and it is famous for its excellent Tudor recreations and tranquil gardens.

Monday After breakfast we leave Colchester and make our journey home.
