EXPLORING EAST ANGLIA

The beauty and unspoilt character of East Anglia has long been an inspiration to artists including the English romantic painter John Constable. The beautiful rural landscapes, preserved architecture and local traditions are still very much in evidence.

The four star standard Best Western Marks Tey Hotel stands on the outskirts of Colchester and offers excellent standards of accommodation. Hotel facilities include an indoor pool, sauna and steam room. All bedrooms have TV, telephone, radio, hairdryer and hot drinks tray.

Itinerary

Sunday Departing in the morning we travel to the east of England and arrive at the Best Western Marks Tey Hotel in time to settle in before dinner.

Monday This morning we discover the idyllic villages and unspoilt beauty on our guided tour of the Constable Country. We include the birthplace of the famous painter at East Bergholt as well as many landscape favourites such as the church at Dedham and the little hamlet of Flatford. In the afternoon we visit the ‘Essex Sunshine Coast’ with bustling Clacton-on-Sea and more relaxed Walton-on-the-Naze.

Tuesday Our first stop of the day will be Bury St Edmonds, a historic town known for its magnificent Abbey Gardens and Angel Hotel of Dickens fame. After lunch we travel via the attractive Suffolk villages of Cavendish and Clare to one of the Britain’s best preserved medieval villages, Lavenham.

Wednesday Today’s excursion takes us into the rural north past The House in the Clouds to the time warp seaside town of Aldeburgh where little has changed for many years. There will be time for lunch in the historic riverside town of Ipswich before returning to Colchester and enjoying admission to Colchester Castle Museum.

Thursday After breakfast we leave Colchester and make our journey home.
