SPRINGTIME IN SUFFOLK

The beauty and unspoilt character of East Anglia has long been an inspiration to artists and at this special time of year when the beautiful rural landscapes are springing to life, it is easy to see why. As well as a wealth of flora and fauna we explore the preserved architecture and local traditions of beautiful Suffolk.

The Best Western Ipswich Hotel nestles in the quaint village of Copdock just outside historic Ipswich.

Itinerary

Sunday We leave in the morning and travel to our hotel with comfort breaks on the way. We enjoy a welcome hot drink on arrival.

Monday Today gives us a ride through picturesque villages to Aldeburgh, with its timewarp Victorian feel. Moving on we head for Southwold, a charmingly old-fashioned seaside town with pastel cottages, delightful pier and iconic beach huts. From here we return south to Woodbridge, a thriving old town on the River Deben. Later in the afternoon there will be time to visit Ipswich.

Tuesday This morning we explore Constable Country. The idyllic villages that we take in include the famous artists birthplace and many of the places that provided inspiration including East Bergholt, Deadham and Flatford Mill. In the afternoon we visit the Beth Chatto Gardens where spring is bringing new life to this famous garden which is based on ecological planting.

Wednesday Our morning begins in Bury St Edmunds where we have time to explore the medieval streets and architecture and learn of the town’s literary links. In the afternoon we visit Ickworth House and Gardens, an interesting rotunda housing a range of national treasures. The garden is known for its impressive spring planting and includes an italianate garden, walled garden and pleasure grounds.

Thursday After breakfast we see the last of the beautiful Suffolk scenery as our journey home begins.
