Isle of Wight

Spring Break

The Isle of Wight with its mild climate and many attractions is an ideal location for a spring holiday. For this holiday we will be staying at the family run Melbourne Ardenlea Hotel ideally situated just 5 minutes walk from the beach and Shanklin Old Village. All rooms are en-suite with colour television, tea/coffee making facilities and direct dial telephone. The hotel also has an indoor swimming pool, spa and sauna and entertainment on most evenings.

Itinerary

Sunday         Departing from Cornwall during the morning we travel to Lymington for the short ferry crossing to Yarmouth and on to our hotel arriving with time to settle before dinner.

Monday        A full day excursion “Around the Island” taking in the dramatic variations of the islands geology, with time to admire the unique coloured sands of Alum Bay. Many of the islands hidden secrets are discovered on this beautiful journey.

Tuesday       Today we visit Ryde with fine Georgian and Victorian buildings, grand esplanade and  attractive sea front. This popular seaside holiday resort is often known as ‘gateway to the island’ and boasts the second longest railway pier and only the hovercraft service in the country.

Wednesday  We have a morning excursion to Godshill, a pretty village of thatched cottages and one of the most photographed places on the island.  This afternoon will be at leisure to explore your more immediate surroundings. The old village of Shanklin is well worth a visit.

Thursday     Today we spend a full day at the island’s capital.  Situated at the base of the River Medina, Newport has an excellent shopping centre and recently refurbished indoor market. The popular Bus Museum and Vintage Boat Museum can be found on the quay for those with an interest in local transport history.  During the afternoon we include a visit to Carisbrooke Castle and Museum where King Charles 1st was once imprisoned.

Friday          After a good breakfast we depart our hotel for the short journey to Yarmouth and our return ferry to Lyminton. We will then return to Cornwall arriving home mid evening.
