Autumn in Suffolk Description
The glorious county of Suffolk has been inspirational to artists of all types for centuries and as we traverse the lovely coast and countryside, it is very easy to see why. As the summer heat is dwindling, the colours of the countryside change and we begin to see the start of autumn beauty.
Autumn in Suffolk Itinerary
Monday We leave Cornwall in the morning and travel to Suffolk where we enjoy a welcome hot drink before settling into our lovely hotel.
Tuesday Our day begins with a visit to the ancient town of Thetford or ‘Walmington-on-Sea’ for Dad’s Army fans. There will be time to follow one of the town trails or enjoy the historic sights. We then visit the highly acclaimed Bressingham Gardens which are a mecca for anyone interested in gardening. The site is also home to the Steam Museum, another passion of founder Alan Bloom.
Wednesday After breakfast we make our way to Bury St Edmunds, famous for its Abbey Gardens and connections with Dickens. After lunch we explore the lovely medieval villages and countryside that were the inspiration and home to a variety of artists including Gainsborough and Constable.
Thursday This morning we head for the coast, starting in charming Southwold on the Suffolk Heritage Coast. Take in the picturesque town or peruse the coastline with its colourful beach huts. We then move on to Aldeburgh, a pretty coastal town on the River Alde which enjoys breathtaking views both seawards and following the River Alde inland.
Friday After breakfast we make our way back to Cornwall arriving home during the evening.
