Itinerary
Constable Country and East Suffolk Itinerary
Sunday We leave Cornwall in the morning and travel to the East of England arriving at our hotel early in the evening.
Monday This morning we visit the ‘Essex Sunshine Coast’, taking in the bustling Clacton-on-Sea and more relaxed Walton-on-the-Naze. Later we move on to Harwich where we enjoy a relaxing harbour ferry taking in the stunning maritime history of the Port of Felixstowe, Landguard Fort, Shotley Peninsula and HMS Ganges.
Tuesday After breakfast, our guide joins us for a guided tour of the idyllic villages of Constable Country. We visit East Bergholt, the pretty birthplace of the famous painter himself, and see the church at Dedham with its 131ft tower. Later we take in Flatford Mill, another favoured subject in Constable’s paintings, with one of his works being named after the mill. We then have time for lunch and to explore the charming seaside town of Felixstowe.
Wednesday Today we begin with a visit to Lavenham, a quintessential Suffolk village with a fine medieval guildhall, hidden lanes and historic architecture. Following this we visit Melford Hall, an imposing and eclectic home, with stories of naval exploits and Beatrix Potter set in picturesque gardens. Its gallery has a stained-glass window commemorating the visit of Queen Elizabeth I.
Thursday After breakfast we leave and begin our journey home.
