Holiday Tour Details
Derry & The Giants Causeway Description
The spectacular scenery on this new tour will take your breath away, starting with a wonderful train journey from Coleraine to Derry described by Michael Palin as ‘one of the most beautiful in the world’. The sublime views continue with a scenic causeway coastal route drive, a visit to the famous Giant’s Causeway and a lovely cruise to see the seabird colony on Rathlin Island. We also embark on a guided tour of Derry, enjoy a tour of the Old Bushmills Distillery and catch sheep dog and sheep shearing demonstrations at a traditional working farm.
Derry & The Giants Causeway Itinerary
Sunday We depart Cornwall and travel to Penrith for an overnight stay at the Shap Wells Hotel.
Monday This morning we travel into Scotland and join the ferry from Cairnryan to Belfast. We continue onto Coleraine and are welcomed with a hot drink at the Lodge Hotel.
Tuesday We begin our day with a scenic train journey from Coleraine to Derry. The track runs alongside the sands of one of the most unspoilt beaches in Ireland, whilst on the opposite side of the track, we pass the cliffs of Downhill and the impressive Binevenagh Mountain. We have a fascinating two hour guided tour of Derry “unlocking the Walled City”. We finish our day with a Civic Tour of Derry’s fabulous landmark Guildhall, including ‘Meet the Mayor’ and a sparkling drinks reception.
Wednesday Today we visit the extraordinary Giant’s Causeway and its award-winning Visitor Centre where we learn about the mystery of this unique landscape. We then enjoy a
scenic drive along the mighty Causeway Coastal Route, admiring the spectacular views as we go. We make a pitstop in the beautiful seaside town of Portrush before arriving at the Old Bushmills Distillery, the world’s oldest licenced working distillery. Here we enjoy a guided tour.
Thursday Ballycastle Harbour is our first stop, here we embark on a two hour cruise in search of puffins, seals and lighthouses! We hear stories from our guides as we sail taking in the beautiful scenery. Rathlin Island boasts Northern Ireland’s largest seabird colony with puffins nesting on the cliffs. Later we have an authentic sheep experience at Dunfin Farm enjoying both a sheep dog and a sheep shearing demonstration – with the chance to try our hand at both!
Friday Checking out of our hotel we travel back to Belfast for our ferry to Scotland. On arrival we make our way back to England and have an overnight stay at the Mercure Dunkenhalgh Hotel.
Saturday We make our way back to Cornwall arriving home during the evening.
