Floriade & Old Holland Description
Every ten years Holland plays host to worlds largest horticultural expo, Floriade. From jasmine flower hotels and orchard houses to a restaurant in a rose garden, the event will be the most urban and green Floriade to date. In contrast to this modern event, we also discover ‘old’ Holland and its many delights.
Itinerary
Floriade & Old Holland Itinerary
Monday We travel to Dover and board the ferry for Calais. We then travel onto Lille for our overnight stay.
Tuesday Today we leave Lille and travel to Lelystad. On the way we visit the spectacular city of Antwerp. Once one of the richest and most innovative countries it is now a favourite destination of luxury travellers. Later we settle into the Leonardo Hotel.
Wednesday This morning we get a taste of old Holland at Museumstoomtram and the ‘historic triangle’ of Hoorn. We begin by enjoying a lovely steam train ride to Medemblik. As we travel we enjoy a coffee and tartelette. On arrival we board the Friesland; a museum ship, which takes us to Enkhuizen across IJsselmeer Lake enjoying a Dutch cold lunch along the way. We also enjoy a visit to the Zuiderzeemuseum, dive into the stories about life on the former Zuiderzee!
Thursday The highlight of our tour today is the world horticultural exhibition Floriade Expo 2022, a world of all things flowers, plants and trees! The theme of the year is ‘Growing Green Cities’ and the huge park will be a celebration of green and sustainable technology. New technologies for greenery, food, energy and health will be researched and implemented at this living laboratory. We will also enjoy the most beautiful flowers, music and entertainment.
Friday Our last day in Holland will begin at Simonehoeve, a traditional cheese farm and clog factory. We enjoy cheese tasting and a hot drink before our coach takes us to Amsterdam. Our afternoon will be at leisure to discover the world-famous 17th century capital of Holland. Enjoy the historic buildings, beautiful museums and pleasant ambiance. Go for a boat tour on the canals or stroll through Vondelpark.
Saturday Leaving our hotel we make our journey via Calais and Dover, back to Cornwall arriving home during the evening.
