Irelands Heartlands Description
This new tour offers a luxury holiday taking in the glory of Irelands inland lakes and countryside. With a traditional Irish welcome and the promise of beautiful scenery at every turn we explore the heritage and excellent attractions that the area has to offer.
Irelands Heartlands Itinerary
Sunday We depart Cornwall early in the morning and travel to Pembroke where we catch our ferry to Rosslare. Once on Irish turf, we make our way to the Brandon House Hotel at New Ross for an overnight stop.
Monday After breakfast we make our way to the historic town of Kilkenny, a compact city which is home to Irelands Medieval Mile. After an early lunch we continue with our journey to Mullingar where we arrive at our hotel to a warm welcome and a hot drink.
Tuesday This morning we visit the Irish National Stud and Gardens where we enjoy a guided tour to learn about the lives of the magnificent horses bred and stabled here. We can also visit the Irish Racehorse Experience, the final Living Legend room and the beautiful Japanese Gardens. In the afternoon we visit Lullymore Heritage and Discovery Park, a unique attraction telling the story of the Irish peatlands and its people. We discover its heritage, from Pagan worship right through to the industrial revolution.
Wednesday Dublin will be today’s destination where we have the day to discover the very essence of this unique city. Perhaps jump on a tour bus, visit the fascinating EPIC The Irish Emigration Museum, sample the wares at the Jameson Distillery or see Trinity College with the awe inspiring Book of Kells.
Thursday Today we make our way to Athlone, a historic town which is home to a twelfth century castle and the oldest pub in Europe. As well as having time to explore the town or Athlone Castle Visitor Centre, we take to the water for a cruise which offers stunning views of the River Shannon and Lough Derg. We return to our hotel in the afternoon to enjoy the facilities.
Friday We leave our hotel and travel to the coastal town of Wicklow which dates back to Viking times. The Black Castle ruins overlook the harbour and stand as a reminder of the Norman invasion. There will be time to follow the town heritage trail and have lunch before we continue our journey to the Maldron Hotel, Wexford for our overnight stop.
Saturday Following an early breakfast we leave our hotel and travel the short distance to the ferry port where we make the Rosslare to Pembroke crossing. We then continue our journey to Cornwall arriving home later in the evening.
