Itinerary
Irish Lakes & Killarney Itinerary
Sunday We depart Cornwall early in the morning and travel to Pembroke where we catch our ferry to Rosslare. Sit back and enjoy the crossing before we reach Ireland. We then make our way to our overnight hotel, Treacy’s Hotel Waterford.
Monday This morning we begin our journey across Ireland and break in Kilkenny, home to one of the most recognisable landmarks in Ireland; the 12th century Kilkenny Castle. After time for lunch or to explore Ireland’s Medieval Mile, we continue on to Adare and Fitzgeralds Woodland House Hotel. We enjoy a welcome hot drink and biscuits on arrival.
Tuesday Our day begins with a guided walking tour of the picture postcard village of Adare. Rich in ancient and archaeological remains, it has a history dating back to 1200 AD. In the afternoon we travel to Ballina for a scenic boat trip on the breath-taking Lough Derg and iconic River Shannon. There will then be time in the heritage twin towns of Ballina and Killaloe.
Wednesday Today we travel south to County Kerry and one of Irelands prettiest towns, Killarney. This special area is full of history, heritage and warm hospitality. Surrounded by a National Park, ancient forests and meandering rivers, it is undoubtedly one of Irelands loveliest locations. Whilst here we sail from Ross Castle for a scenic cruise on Lough Leane, Killarney’s largest and most picturesque lake.
Thursday The iconic Bunratty Castle and Folk Park is our first delightful stop this morning. As well as the most complete and authentic castle in Ireland, the park also features over thirty buildings in a ‘living’ village and rural setting. In the afternoon we have a visit to Limerick. This spirited city sits on the River Shannon and has strong ties to medieval history.
Friday We leave Adare and cross Ireland to visit its oldest city, Waterford. Our afternoon is free to discover its wealth of history, visit any of the excellent museums, see the impressive architecture or go to the world famous House of Waterford Crystal. Later we travel to Wexford and check into the Maldron Hotel for an overnight stay.
Saturday Following an early breakfast, we leave our hotel and travel the short distance to the ferry port where we make the Rosslare to Pembroke crossing. We then continue our journey to Cornwall arriving home later in the evening.
