The Manchester Ship Canal was the artery carrying the lifeblood of the Industrial Revolution. Today it is a piece of history to be treasured and enjoyed. We experience a variety of the magnificent scenery and diverse attractions in this historic and lovingly regenerated area.
Itinerary
Manchester Ship Canal Itinerary
Monday We set off in the morning and enjoy the journey to Greater Manchester. We arrive in time to settle into our hotel before dinner.
Tuesday This morning we travel to Liverpool, birthplace of the Beatles and city of maritime importance. We have a guided coach tour to show us the highlights of this magnificent city before we take time out for lunch in the regenerated Royal Albert Dock area. Our afternoon will be free to discover any of the great attractions the city has to offer.
Wednesday Our day begins in the town of Rawtenstall where we board the East Lancashire Railway to enjoy a traditional journey through the lovely countryside to Bury. On arrival, we have time to visit the Bury Transport Museum or browse the famous Bury Market.
Thursday The highlight of our tour will of course be stepping aboard the ship for a six hour Manchester Ship Canal Cruise. The lively commentary tells the story of the canal, bridges and locks which have remained largely unchanged for over a hundred years.
Friday After breakfast we begin the journey back to Cornwall, breaking for lunch on the way.
