Itinerary
Mull, Bute & Iona Itinerary
Saturday We depart Cornwall in the morning and travel to Preston for our overnight stay at the Holiday Inn.
Sunday After breakfast we travel into Scotland and through its wonderful scenery as we make our way to Oban and the Royal Hotel. We arrive in time to settle in before dinner.
Monday Today, we enjoy a full day guided tour of the two beautiful Inner Hebridean islands of Mull and Iona. Our journey begins with a ferry crossing from Oban to Craignure, passing breath-taking scenery steeped in history, including stunning 13th century Duart Castle. On arrival in Mull, we enjoy a scenic guided tour through the island, around its lochs and through its glens, to Fionnphort, where we board a ferry to Iona. We have two hours on this tiny island to see the medieval nunnery and Reilig Òdhrain; the burial place of early Scottish kings, before visiting the world-famous Iona Abbey, one of Scotland’s most sacred sites. We then return to the mainland.
Tuesday We travel to Fort William, where we board the Nevis Range Gondola, Britain’s only mountain gondola. Reaching high onto the north face of Aonach Mòr, our short journey takes us over the stunning scenery of the Scottish Highlands. At the top station, we take in the views and visit the Mountain Discovery Centre. In the afternoon we have time at leisure in Fort William.
Wednesday Leaving Oban we head to Inveraray Castle for a guided tour of what is one of the most iconic in Scotland. We learn about its history and stories before exploring its stunning gardens at leisure. In the afternoon we make our way to Mercure Ayr Hotel in time for dinner.
Thursday Our day starts with a visit to the neo-gothic house Mount Stuart. One of the most technologically advanced houses of its age, the property is set in landscaped gardens and the house is a labyrinth of lavish rooms, grand hallways and staircases. From here, we take a scenic tour around the island, finishing in the Victorian resort of Rothesay where we can explore the town and its many attractions.
Friday This morning, we begin our journey home. We travel down through Scotland and then enjoy a scenic trip through the Lake District with a lunch break in the lovely town of Bowness-on-Windermere. Our last night will be spent at the Holiday Inn Preston.
Saturday We leave Preston and make the journey back to Cornwall.
