Join us to make the most of Hampshire’s long maritime history, with a visit to the fantastic Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and a unique experience with a hovercraft flight to the Isle of Wight. We also enjoy a nostalgic ride on the lovely Watercress Line.
Itinerary
Portsmouth & The Solent Itinerary
Monday We depart Cornwall in the morning and travel to our coastal hotel in Portsmouth, set in a harbourside position on the beautiful Hampshire coast. We have a leisurely lunch break en route.
Tuesday Today we board the world’s only year round passenger hovercraft service, taking us across the Solent to Ryde on the Isle of Wight. The thrill of flying on a cushion of air above the waves is an exhilarating experience. Once on the island you can spend the day in Ryde or board the excellent local train service for easy exploration further afield. We enjoy a return ride to the mainland later in the afternoon on the hovercraft.
Wednesday Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will be our first stop. Here we have a visit to HMS Victory, Nelson’s famous flagship from the Battle of Trafalgar. The Victory currently has a dual role as the Flagship of the First Sea Lord and as a living museum to the Georgian Navy. In the afternoon, we have time in the maritime city of Portsmouth where you can explore or even view the area from the stunning Spinnaker Tower.
Thursday This morning we head for the lovely cathedral city of Winchester. There will be time to explore the medieval streets and admire the historic sights. In the afternoon we take a journey on the Min Hants Railway, a charming heritage railway, lovingly known as the ‘Watercress Line’. Our train will take us to the colourful town of New Alresford and there will be time to look around before rejoining our coach.
Friday After breakfast, we board our coach and make the journey back to Cornwall.
