Scotlands Great Cities Description
Scotland is most famed for its natural beauty and scenic countryside but the rich tapestry of scenery is interspersed with beautiful cities that have long and fascinating histories, amazing architecture and wonderful attractions to enjoy. We tour a beautiful part of Scotland enjoying both the scenery and its magnificent cities.
Scotlands Great Cities Itinerary
Sunday We leave in the morning to travel to Lancashire for an overnight stay at the Hallmark Hotel Preston Leyland.
Monday After breakfast we begin the journey that takes us into Scotland. When we reach the border city of Carlisle we have a break allowing time for lunch and to discover some of its colourful history. We arrive at the Doubletree by Hilton, Dunblane later in the afternoon.
Tuesday Glasgow is our destination today and we begin with a self-guided visit to Glasgow Cathedral ‘St Mungos’. Built in the 1100s, the impressive building has drawn countless pilgrims to his shrine and is the most intact cathedral in mainland Scotland. We also have a one hour guided walking tour of the fascinating Glasgow Necropolis. Later there is free time to enjoy other parts of this vastly regenerated city.
Wednesday Our day begins with a drive across the Kincardine Bridge to Culross, a 16th century time capsule village. There will be time to wander around this ‘wee gem’. From here we cross the iconic Forth Road Bridge to Falkirk for a ride on the Falkirk Wheel, a superb feat of engineering to transport boats between canals. We also have a short visit to see the impressive Kelpies.
Thursday Today we visit Edinburgh, the capital city made up of medieval old town, elegant Georgian new town, beautiful gardens and neoclassical buildings. Our day begins with a visit to the Royal Yacht Britannia, Her Majesty The Queen’s former floating palace for over 40 years. Our afternoon will be free to visit the castle, walk the Royal Mile or explore Holyrood Palace.
Friday After breakfast we begin our journey south travelling through the beautiful Lake District. We take a break on the shores of Lake Windermere before returning to the Hallmark Hotel, Preston Leyland for an overnight stay.
Saturday Today we complete our journey home and arrive in Cornwall later in the day.
