Holiday Tour Details
Scottish Highland Gold Description
From the bogs of the Moor of Rannoch to the west coast beyond Glen Coe and Fort William, the Western Highlands have an abundance of lochs and mountains. The autumn showcases the landscapes ablaze with golden colours and we take in the magnificent sights by rail, road and water.
Scottish Highland Gold Itinerary
Wednesday We travel from Cornwall to Preston where we have an overnight stop at the Holiday Inn Preston.
Thursday The scenery changes dramatically today as we make our way into and through Scotland and up to the highlands. We settle into the lovely Ballachulish Hotel before dinner.
Friday Today we visit the quaint town of Fort William which sits in the shadow of Ben Nevis. There will be time to discover the town, visit the distillery or browse the West Highland Museum. We will also enjoy a ninety minute cruise on loch Linnhe. Surrounded by wonderful wildlife and unique views of Ben Nevis, you’ll also receive a fascinating commentary throughout from our Skipper.
Saturday This morning we visit the pretty seaside town of Oban with its galleries, harbour, local distillery and ruined Dunollie Castle. We have time to browse and enjoy before boarding a Scotrail train to Crianlarich. Considered to be one of the most scenic rail journeys in the world, the line takes us through the Pass of Brander and alongside Loch Etive.
Sunday We join our coach today for yet another scenic feast. Our day begins with a visit to the Glencoe Visitor Centre. Here we learn of the formation of the spectacular mountains and the sad tale of the clan MacDonald and their tragic massacre. We then continue into the Trossachs and take to the water on Loch Lomond. A live commentary and local wildlife make this a fascinating trip.
Monday It is time to leave our hotel and enjoy the fabulous scenery as we ride through Scotland and cross back into England. We spend the last night of our tour at the Holiday Inn, Preston.
Tuesday After breakfast we make our way back to Cornwall arriving during the evening.
