The delicate snowdrop flower is a gentle reminder that spring is approaching and mass displays within winter gardens are a sight to behold. Our annual snowdrop tour takes in a range of glorious displays in different settings including two splendid National Trust sites and the famously restored gardens at Hestercombe.
Itinerary
Snowdrops of Somerset Itinerary
Friday Leaving Cornwall in the morning we make our way to Somerset and the lovely Cadbury House Hotel. Before checking in to our hotel we have time in the excellent Cadbury Garden Centre.
Saturday Today we head for the spa city of Bath and our day begins with time in the beautiful Prior Park. Here the delicate white snowdrops bloom across the 18th century hillside estate, clustering thickly along the woodland paths, water cascades and valley sides. Later we have time in the beautiful city for a late lunch or to explore its beautiful streets and riverside.
Sunday This morning we have time in the vibrant Clifton Village, a stylish and historic area of Bristol. It features grand Georgian architecture, independent boutiques and famous local landmarks like the Clifton Suspension Bridge. Later we cross the Severn Bridge and visit Tredegar House, a 17th century architectural wonder of Wales with gardens and vast parkland. The parkland provides a perfect setting for these delicate blooms, with clusters of snowdrops scattered across the open grassy areas and beneath the trees.
Monday We leave our hotel this morning and travel to Hestercombe Gardens, one of the best places in Somerset to see carpets of snowdrops. We have time to explore the idyllic Georgian pleasure grounds with delightful woodland walks, lakeside views, classical temples and the Great Cascade. In the afternoon we return to Cornwall.
