The typically British county of Suffolk is home to divine towns and idyllic countryside at every turn. Much of it’s beauty has been immortalised by the great artists of the area we see the inspirational vistas and visit some wonderfully interesting attractions.
Suffolk & Racing Greats Itinerary
Sunday Leaving Cornwall in the morning we travel across the country to Bury St Edmunds. There will be time to settle in before dinner.
Monday A tour of Constable Country today that takes us down to the beautiful Vale of Dedham. We include places that lived and drew inspiration from including Dedham, East Bergholt and Flatford. We also visit the beautiful town of Sudbury, birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough.
Tuesday We visit the National Heritage Centre for Horseracing, located in part of King Charles II’s sporting palace. We enjoy a guided tour before seeing former racehorses training and meeting these friendly heroes of the racing world! With the National Horse Racing Museum and British sporting art galleries also on site, there is plenty to enjoy. From here, we head to Newmarket where we enjoy free time for lunch before returning to Bury St Edmunds for the remainder of the afternoon.
Wednesday Our day begins with a visit to the Dad’s Army Museum in Thetford where the series was filmed. We enjoy an entertaining guided tour of “Walmington-on-Sea”, taking in the many filming locations before time in the museum with tea and biscuits. There is time for lunch before we head to Bressingham Steam and Gardens. Here we see the exhibitions and enjoy the unique gardens which are renowned for their horticultural excellence.
Thursday This morning we enjoy breakfast before making the journey home to Cornwall arriving during the evening.
