Itinerary
Waterways of Cheshire Itinerary
Sunday We depart Cornwall in the morning and travel to Flintshire where we have a warm welcome to our hotel with tea and Bara Brith.
Monday This morning we visit the small town of Ruthin before crossing the spectacular Horseshoe Pass to the pretty town on Llangollen. There will be time for lunch before we take to the canal for a cruise through the beautiful Vale of Llangollen and across the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, or ‘Stream in the Sky’. An interesting commentary will give us an insight into the history of the area.
Tuesday Our day starts in the charming city of Chester with a tranquil thirty minute cruise on the River Dee including commentary. There will be time for lunch in the lovely city before a visit to the award winning Ness Botanic Gardens. Founded in 1898 this horticultural collection has show gardens, a Victorian style potager and an Alpine House.
Wednesday The magnificent Anderton Boat Lift takes us on a cruise with a difference. The amazing structure lifts our boat from the River Weaver to the Trent and Mersey Canal high above. The excellent visitor centre houses an exhibition on the lift’s history and its control centre. We also visit the pleasant market town of Nantwich.
Thursday Today our coach takes us to the second smallest city in the UK, St Asaph. There will be time for morning coffee and to explore the compact but important cathedral before we head to the coast. Llandudno was once a Victorian resort and is still a wonderful place to while away an afternoon.
Friday After breakfast we begin our journey south and arrive home during the evening.
