This warming winter break offers the opportunity to stay in the heart of the magnificent city of York, with its winding streets, beautiful shops and deep history. We also enjoy time exploring the beautiful Yorkshire countryside, taking in some of its beautiful towns and visit ‘The World of James Herriot’.
Itinerary
York Winter Break Itinerary
Monday Departing from Cornwall in the morning we travel to York and arrive in time for dinner.
Tuesday Today is free for us to explore the ancient and historic City of York at leisure. Perhaps enjoy the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre or the Castle Museum. Stroll around the City Walls and see the magnificent York Minster.
Wednesday This morning we start with a visit to Knaresborough where we can view Knaresborough Castle, a ruined fortress overlooking the River Nidd. We then head to Harrogate, a once popular spa destination, here you can take refreshments at the world-famous Betty’s tearooms or take a stroll through the lovely Valley Gardens.
Thursday Our first stop will be the World of James Herriot. This award winning attraction is based on the life and times of the famous TV vet, Alf Wright, and includes many of the props and three studio sets as featured in the long-running TV series, All Creatures Great and Small. Later we visit one of Britain’s smallest cities, Ripon. It is packed with history, charm and unique tradition.
Friday After breakfast we leave York and make the journey home.
