Basel Rhine Discovery River Cruise Description
We embark on an unforgettable journey along the majestic Rhine River, meandering through charming cities, past historic landmarks and into picturesque landscapes. All of this is enjoyed whilst we relax on board the excellent MS Viva Tiara, a modern and spacious four star cruise ship.
Our journey along the Rhine will be a true celebration of cultural diversity, history and natural beauty – a feast for our senses that will leave lasting memories.
Itinerary
Basel Rhine Discovery River Cruise Itinerary
Thursday We leave Cornwall early in the morning and travel to Dover where we board an afternoon ferry for Calais. We then travel onto Lille for an overnight stay.
Friday Our journey continues through France and we will enjoy regular breaks enroute to the Strasbourg area. On arrival we enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a comfortable and convenient hotel.
Saturday This morning we make our way to Switzerland and the enchanting city of Basel. Cobblestone streets, hidden squares and historic buildings reflect its beautifully preserved centre. There will be time to explore and have lunch before we are taken to our ship at its docking point on the beautiful Rhine.
Sunday After breakfast we dock in Strasbourg. We explore the capital of Alsace with a guided bus tour, passing key landmarks, before exploring the charming Petite France district on foot. Stroll its cobbled streets, admire half-timbered houses and see the iconic Strasbourg Cathedral.
Monday Today we have a morning cruising before reaching Frankfurt. In the afternoon we have a guided walking tour from the riverbank through the Old Town. We see iconic landmarks and hear intriguing insights about its financial district, reconstructed medieval buildings and literary connections.
Tuesday Our morning will be spent in Speyer, we enjoy a guided city walk to soak up its rich history and cultural heritage. From its majestic Romanesque Cathedral to its charming streets steeped in centuries-old stories. In the afternoon we set sail and enjoy the glorious river views.
Wednesday The first part of our day takes us through the scenic Upper Rhine to Colmar, a French town on the border with Germany, in the renowned wine region of Alsace. We have a guided walking tour which unveils its cobblestone alleys, half-timbered medieval houses and tranquil canals.
Thursday We sadly disembark the MS Viva Tiara ship and make our way Reims where we have an overnight stay.
Friday After breakfast we travel to Calais and board the ferry back to the UK. We arrive home in the evening.

MS VIVA TIARA carries up to 152 guests and 76 cabins.
It has a cozy lounge as well as a main restaurant. There is a pool and putting green on the sun deck and a wellness area which includes a steam bath and infrared sauna.
